Sam Jones

Sam Jones has 15 years experience performing strategic execution in leading technology arenas. Prior to co-founding Formation Media, Sam led the Corporate Development function and ran the Games division at Demand Media.

Before Demand Media, Sam founded Centurion MGT Partners - a strategic advisory firm focused on developing and executing organic and acquisitive growth strategies. Clients included Merrill Lynch, Siemens, and the State of Illinois.

Sam was a Manager at Mercator Partners and helped develop multi-billion-dollar financing vehicles for Bechtel Telecommunications and broadband proliferation strategies for the State of Michigan. Before Mercator Partners, Sam founded i2e2, an online gaming community and digital download solution with the backing of BancBoston Ventures.

Sam started his career at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette, a Wall Street investment bank, where he focused on technology mergers and acquisitions.

Sam graduated Northwestern University with a BA in Political Science and received an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Joel Downs

Joel is a serial entrepreneur in the social media space. Most recently, he served as VP of Product Development and GM of Answerbag.com for Demand Media. His duties included managing Product for businesses such as Answerbag, eHow.com, and Demand Studios, and he led the "widget team." In 2003, Joel founded Answerbag which is now the #3 Social Q&A website (next to Yahoo Answers and Answers.com) with over 13 million visitors per month. He sold Answerbag in 2006.

At Intermix Media (parent of MySpace.com,) Joel led a team to build Grab.com, a casual games community site and grew it to over two million monthly visitors with average time on site of over half an hour.

Before Intermix, Joel worked as a Product Manager with Yahoo! Games.

Joel started his career by co-founding an online videogame magazine called Gamers.com and a PC hardware and games review site called FiringSquad.com both of which were funded by CMGi. At the time, Gamers.com housed the largest database of casual and hardcore video games in the world.

Joel graduated UC Berkeley with a BS in Mechanical Engineering.
